“Cardiff-by-the-Lights” – 158 of them up to 9 stories in height. This is what is being proposed by a City Council charged with protecting and preserving the unique character of each of the five communities that make up the City of Encinitas. It appears that community character is no longer their concern, at least not when it comes to Cardiff-by-the-Sea.
Nor, it appears, are they concerned with the potential loss of millions of dollars in real estate value that they will inflict on Cardiff residents who live near the Hall property and who will now view the ocean and sunsets through a grill of poles and ground light (I thought we were trying to underground our utilities, not turn them into the National City Mile of Cars).
It also appears that they are not concerned about fully informing the affected Cardiff residents regarding what they are planning. Otherwise, why would they have miss-labeled their public meeting & its subject matter and supplied misleading and incomplete information in, what appears to be, an attempt to pass off a regional sports facility as a “community park”?
City conducted surveys show that Cardiff residents generally favor utilizing the Hall property for a community park. It is incumbent on our City Council to ensure that its design is compatible with Cardiff’s very unique character and charm. Instead the “community park” has morphed into a regional sports facility with lighting which, according to our mayor, needs to be at 3 times the community’s height limits or it would “blind everyone for miles around”.
Cardiff-by-the-Sea is a sleeping lion. It needs to wake up before our City Council turns it into “Cardiff-by-the-Lights”.
